The doubles series asks a mid career artist to invite another artist, with whom they have some form of artistic relationship, to make an exhibition with them. In the first of the series, Peter Liversidge asks Levin Haegele to work with him to realise the exhibition abcdefghijklmnopqrstuvwxyz. The exhibition contains individual works by both Peter and Levin and also sees them work collaboratively for the first time. Levin has worked part time as Peter's studio assistant for the past 10 years.

Peter Liversidge's work starts with the conceptually-based practice of creating proposals for performances and artworks across almost every conceivable medium, usually creating the proposals within a self-imposed timeline that is related to an exhibition or project; many are site-specific. The resulting exhibition includes the manifestation of some of the ideas as well the actual proposals, both realized and unrealized. 

"... the process [of writing proposals] is also about the notion of creativity: it's important that some of the proposals are actually realized, but no more so that the others that remain only as text on a piece of A4 paper. In a sense they are all possible and the bookwork that collates the proposals allows the reader to curate their own show, and because of its size and scale the bookwork allows an individual to interact with each of the proposals on their own terms, one to one".

Levin Haegele's work moves between media and addresses found objects and spaces. His work is a responsive approach to the domestic environment that attempts to reclaim or appropriate a mundane situation for a short period of time. The viewer's conceptual and experiential input is needed to 'complete' the work making them inherently implicated in the work's success or failure. 

The exhibition abcdefghijklmnopqrstuvwxyz is the first time Haegele has directly collaborated with another artist. Questions of authorship, responsibility, and discourse are raised, but does not stray far from the approach of creating a pseudo-logic from within the exhibition space.
