The doubles series asks a mid career artist to invite another artist, with whom they have some form of artistic relationship, to make an exhibition with them. In the third of the series Juan Cruz has asked Robin Jenkins to exhibit with him in a show that obliquely references personal histories through the exhibition of discrete works.
Juan Cruz is exhibiting a selection of objects, pseudo paintings and prints made in his studio over the last few years and without a specific context in mind. They extend a practice that has often developed in response to specific contextual opportunities and involved the use of various forms of text in relation to the visual.
Robin Jenkins will exhibit a selection of recent work that marks a departure from an ongoing investigation about the Severn Sea, a project based on childhood experiences and a love affair with the ocean. More recent works, still associated to the sea, consider the fears and tales that we are all familiar with, just when we thought it was safe to go back in the water.
